Program Director, Northern Arizona Candelen

What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was a child, I had a friend whose father was a child psychiatrist. He had toys in his office and told me that when he worked with children he often used them. I couldn’t think of a better job than to play with toys and help kids. I ended up with a BA in Psych, post grad studies in Family Therapy, and a Masters in Early Childhood Education. I still play with toys and help kids. It’s the best!

What lasting lesson have you learned from Candelen?

At Candelen, I have learned two things:

  1. Authentic work relationships that embrace laughter as part of the work culture allow me to be myself and is its own reward.
  2. We all make mistakes, but at Candelen we talk about them with humility and collaboratively work to both correct and learn from them. People can really develop professionally in a safe environment.
